    The first mention of Valašské Meziříčí dates from the 13th century. The name comes from "mezi-říčí" (being between rivers); the centre is in the wedge of the confluencing Rožnovská Bečva and Vsetínská Bečva rivers. The adjective specifies that this town is located in Moravian Wallachia.
