A VSD Viewer is an application to open Microsoft Visio VSD files without the need for Microsoft Visio. The official Microsoft Visio 2016 Viewer is only available for PC and works only in Internet Explorer. VSD viewers are useful to both PC and Mac users because it means they don't need to buy and install Microsoft Visio in order to view Visio files that someone may have sent or shared with them. Beyond opening Visio files, some VSD Viewers also allow basic and in some cases, advanced editing or annotation of VSD files.

Supported Formats

Microsoft Visio 2016 Viewer uses ActiveX to allow users to open Visio drawings files with a .vsdx, .vsdm, .vsd, .vdx, .vdw, .vstx, .vstm, .vst, or .vtx extension. Internet Explorer also allows users to print the Visio files, although this is limited to the portion of the drawing displayed. Visio file formats are in binary format such as VSD or XML format such as VDX and VSDX and apply to Visio 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016. Third-party VSD Viewers for Mac may not be able to open all types of Visio formats and users need to check with vendors first to ensure that the software can open the Visio formats they require.
