The school opened its doors with 27 students in 1976. A pioneer in Madurai for adopting the ICSE syllabus for its high school, the school has continued to set the benchmark for excellence in final examinations scores. The school was upgraded to Higher Secondary status in June 1996. Given the comparative advantage enjoyed by students graduating from the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus while competing for entrance to state Medical and Engineering schools, the school has adopted the state board syllabus for its higher secondary program. Currently the school has a strength of about 700 students. The school has continually upgraded its academic and sports infrastructure.
Management
The Administrative responsibility of the school rests with the board members elected by the Virudhunagar Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai at Madurai. The Secretary leads the administrative efforts and is assisted by a team of office bearers, consisting of the President, Vice-president, Joint Secretary and Treasurer.
Facilities
A unique feature of the school is that class strength is limited to only 20 students up to X standard. Student-teacher ratio is maintained at 10:1. Classrooms are illuminated, ventilated and spacious and have all the necessary facilities.
The school has a well stocked library with books on wide range of subjects and a separate reading room with all the latest magazines and dailies. Separate laboratories are available for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography for advancement in sciences. Also, individual rooms for English and Tamil are available for cultural and language development.
To provide latest in Information Technology, the school has a separate computer hall for primary level and higher secondary level. Also a Multimedia Room cum Mini Conference Hall has been established for training through audio/visual communications.
Academic
The principal is in charge of the school academics. Montessori trained teachers at the primary school level, impart creativity to the students. From the middle school level, the challenging ICSE curriculum hones the mathematics and science knowledge of children. At the Higher Secondary level, the Tamil Nadu State Board syllabus ensures that most of its students enter top ranking medical and engineering programs.
The school engages with parents on a continual basis. Parents teachers meetings are held once a term. Fraternal meetings are conducted twice a year with management, teachers and parents. Attendance is mandatory for all parents.
