Federation Cup Athletics: V. S. Surekha Wins gold in Pole vault
V. S. Surekha (Malayalam: വി.എസ്. സുരേഖ) (born (1984-08-14)14 August 1984) is an Indian pole vaulter. She holds the current national record of 4.15 m set at National Open Championships held at New Delhi in 2014. Surekha is the first Indian female pole vaulter to clear 4.00 meters. She is married to the triple jumper and Indian National record holder Renjith Maheshwary.

Career
Surekha was born in Kerala; her first national record was 3.51 m, a record set at the 43rd Open National Athletic Championship in Bangalore on 28 September 2003. At the third National Federation Cup junior athletic meet in Chennai, Surekha set a new meet record of 3.45 m. In the next year on 12 September, at the Standard Chartered Open National Athletics in Mumbai, she bettered her national mark by vaulting 3.55m. At the meeting at 1st national athletics circuit meet at New Delhi, Surekha set a new national record, with a height of 3.70 m only to see her rival Chetna Solanki increase this by ten centimeters the following month. However, in the same year Surekha equalled Chetna's record at an international meet at Incheon on 2 September. On 5 September 2006 in New Delhi, Surekha became the first Indian vaulter to clear 4.00 meters by jumping 4.05 to set a new national record. She bettered the record clearing 4.15 meters at the National Open Championships in New Delhi, in November 2014.
