History
After its independence, Uzbekistan established several state communication enterprises in 1992. Later that year, all the enterprises were merged to form "Uzbektelecom". In 1995, the Uzbek government began to denationalize Uzbekistan's communication services. This led to the formation of several communication companies, including Toshkenttaksofoni, Syrdarya Telecom, Uzbektelecom International, Buzton, and Chircom. In 1997, the Uzbek "Ministry of Communications" was renamed to the "Post and Telecommunications Agency", which was the basis for the creation of an independent communications regulatory body. In 1997, the privatization of the nation's communication services continued, and several more communication companies were formed, including Mahalliy Telecom, Halqaro Telecom, Tashkent City Telephone Network, Tashkent Telecom, Andijan Telecom, and Namangan Telecom. In 2000, due to an edict of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, all of the communication companies were merged to form the "Uzbektelecom Joint Stock Company". In 2001, Uzbektelecom was restructured from a holding company into an operating company. In 2002, the company was prepared for privatization, completed its Information Memorandum, and began seeking potential investors.
On March 4, 2003, Uzbektelecom JSC created an Engineering-technical center. Instead of this, the company inherited new type of communication, which was wireless network communications by the CDMA-450 standards. In order to accomplish these tasks, the company created a new branch called "UzMobile", which primarily focused on providing high standard wireless network communication services in Uzbekistan. In 2004, UzMobile expanded its radio networks through the usage of CDMA-450 standards, which led to the expansion of wireless network communications in Uzbekistan. In 2006, Uzbektelecom JSC implemented video conference communication in Uzbekistan. In 2007, UzMobile expanded its services to all the regions of Uzbekistan through the use of CDMA-450 standards. In 2010 the company increased its network speeds to 2.5 GB/s in Uzbekistan and reduced the price of Internet usage by 44 percent.
In 2011, Uzbektelecom JSC was renamed to "Uztelecom". In 2012, the company increased its Uzbek network speeds to 40GB/s and reduced the price of Internet usage due to the construction of 1576 km of new fiber-optic cables. In the same year the company built about 94 offices in different parts of Uzbekistan and enlarged the CDMA-450 standard radio wireless communication zones to 71.3% of the nation. In 2013, the company expanded its fiber-optic cable network to 2257.4 km and built 140 stations to further implement CDMA-450 technology in Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, the company increased its number of offices in Uzbekistan to 163.
