Meet the university of talca


The University of Talca (Spanish: Universidad de Talca) is a Chilean university located in the cities of Talca, Curicó, Linares, Santa Cruz and Santiago. It is a derivative university, one of the most important universities of the southern-central region of Chile, and it is part of the Chilean Traditional Universities.

History

The Universidad de Talca was founded in 1981, upon the fusion of the seats in Talca of the Universidad de Chile and the Universidad Técnica del Estado. In 1998, the Facultad de Ingeniería was founded and established in the city of Curicó, 60 km north of Talca. In 2007, a Technological Institute is established in Santa Cruz. In 2014 is established a campus in Linares, 52 km south of Talca.

Organization

The university has five campuses, distributed in the cities of Talca, Curicó, Linares, Santiago and Santa Cruz. The main one is the Campus Lircay, in northern Talca. The Campus Los Niches, a few kilometres outside Curicó, is the second largest and the location of the Facultad de Ingeniería. In Linares, the university plans to build a new campus in 2015, while carrying out its labors in the Diego Portales Technical Lyceum building. In Santiago, the university operates in two venues: in Providencia and San Joaquin communes. In Santa Cruz, there is a Technological Institute (Instituto Colchagua) that teaches degrees related to the wine industry.
