Welcome to welcome to university of electronic science and technology of china

History

In 1956, under the instruction of Premier Zhou Enlai, the inception of Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering ushered in the first higher education institution of electronic and information science and technology of China. CIRE was then created from the combination of electronics-allied divisions of three well-established universities: Shanghai Jiaotong University, Southeast University (then Nanjing Institute of Technology) and South China University of Technology. As early as the 1960s, it was ranked as one of the nation's Key Higher Education Institutions. In 1997, UESTC was included in the first group of universities in the "211 Project", a national program for advancing China's higher education. In September 2001, UESTC was selected as one of the 39 research-intensive universities in China that gain special funding under "Project 985" for developing into world-class universities.

Today, UESTC has developed into a multidisciplinary university directly reporting to the Ministry of Education, which has electronic information science and technology as its nucleus, science and engineering as its major field, and incorporates management, economics, medicine and liberal arts. UESTC has more than 3,000 faculty members, of whom 8 are academicians of CAS & CAE, 325 full professors and 483 associate professors. It has an enrollment of 26,000 students, including 10,000 research students.

Academic schools

Built on the MIT model and as a member of "Project 985", UESTC is an electronics-centered multidisciplinary leading research university, covering all of the 6 National Key Disciplines categorized for higher education in electronic and information science and technology in China and a broad range of subjects:

The most recent official ranking made by Ministry of Education (based on input-output performance), which was published in the People's Daily, ranked UESTC the 5th among the 39 "Project 985" universities, surpassing Fudan, Tianjin, Xi'an Jiaotong, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sichuan, Shanghai Jiaotong, Sun Yat-sen and Nankai.

UESTC is the only higher-education institution in China that covers all 6 "National Key Disciplines" in electronic and information science and technology. It has 22 Ministerial or Provincial Key Disciplines, 4 National Key Labs and 39 Ministerial or Provincial Key Labs. UESTC offers 36 MoE-authorized subject areas for a Ph.D. It achieved 43 National Awards in science, over 600 ministerial or provincial awards, about 500 patents and 20,000 scientific papers and books during the past decade. Research funding reached RMB 510 million (2007).

    International collaboration

UESTC has co-training agreements in place with over 40 overseas institutions, such as Purdue University, University of Glasgow and University of Minnesota in the World Top 100 University League. UESTC collaborates with more than 300 overseas institutions and multi-national companies. There are over 1,000 overseas companies collocated with UESTC in Chengdu, including over 100 Fortune 500's, such as 3M, Dell, HP, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, National Semi, Onsemi, ABB, Acatel, BAT, BHP, Ericsson, GSK, KLM, Nokia, Philips, Siemens, Shell, Canon, NEC, Samsung, Toyota, etc.

UESTC's students come from all over China and internationally. Its graduates-to-jobs ratio is sustained at between 1:8 and 1:9 in the Chinese jobs market.

While a high proportion of UESTC graduates stay on to do research for a master's degree, about 30% of the graduates are recruited to Pearl River Delta, the fast-growing consumer electronics design and manufacturing centre of China. Similarly, a high proportion of UESTC Master's graduates stay on to do a PhD, about 12% of the Masters are recruited to Shenzhen alone, and 8.3% are recruited to Shanghai.
