The University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the advancement and continuing education of risk managers from institutions of higher education. It celebrated its 40th Annual Conference in 2009.

Background

The mission of the URMIA is to promote the advancement and application of effective risk management principles and practices in institutions of higher education. It acts as a preeminent source of innovative and effective solutions to the challenges facing institutions of higher education in the pursuit of their academic, social, and economic goals. The association pledges to the betterment of its member institutions and to the professional growth and development of its institutional representatives. Its conduct is guided by the highest ethical standards and characterized by trust, integrity, and a spirit of sharing and helpfulness.

Goals

URMIA's goals is to protect the reputation and resources, both human and financial, of institutions of higher education through the incorporation of sound risk management practices into all aspects of their operations; to make available the best and most complete risk management information for institutions of higher education; and to provide excellent professional development opportunities for risk management professionals in higher education.
