Umberto Malesci (born January 6, 1981), is an Italian technology entrepreneur and executive, CEO and co-founder of Fluidmesh Networks. Umberto Malesci is also a board member of the Italian Institute of Technology Foundation (Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia).

Education

Umberto Malesci holds a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At MIT CSAIL, Prof. Samuel Madden (computer scientist) has been Malesci's advisor during his research work that led to Malesci's thesis on wireless networking protocols for sensor networks, then published in Zurich in 2006 in the proceedings of the Third European Workshop on Wireless Sensor Networks (EWSN 2006).

Career

Umberto Malesci started his career as a management consultant for the Italian office of Mckinsey & Company. In 2005 while still a graduate student at MIT, Umberto Malesci co-founded Fluidmesh Networks together with his brother Cosimo Malesci and two friends Torquato Bertani and Andrea Orioli. Since 2005 Umberto Malesci has been serving as the company CEO.

Until 2014 Umberto Malesci also served as board member in Pantascene LLC, a software technology company Fluidmesh invested into, and as Vice-Chairman of AvrioRMS Group, a technology system integrator headquartered in Chicago. Both AvrioRMS Group and Pantascene have been then acquired by HDS in September 2014.

Umberto Malesci joined the board of the Italian Institute of Technology (Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia) in October 2014.

Awards

Umberto Malesci gained the Innovation Piazza Mercanti Award for Entrepreneurs in 2011 from the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, Italy.
