UWO Formula Racing is The University of Western Ontario’s Formula SAE team. Made up of approximately 60 students who volunteer their time and talents each year to conceive, design, and build a formula style race car. Up against more than 120 other universities, the car is not only judged on speed, but on design and viability as a mass-produced consumer autocross racer. Western’s car finished in fifth place at the 2010 competition in California. While the university provides some assistance, the students depend on the generosity of corporate sponsors and members of the community for the majority of the project’s funding. Through this practical application of their studies, students utilize leadership, teamwork, marketing, organization and financial skills to succeed in this venture. The UWO Formula Racing team is committed to the advancement of education and the enhancement of the student experience at the University of Western Ontario.
