Tung Wah College (Chinese: 東華學院) (referred to as the TWC, Tung Wah) is a privately funded tertiary education institution in Hong Kong. It was founded by, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of, the charity Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. The college is an approved post-secondary education provider, registered under the Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance of the Hong Kong Government. Established in 2010, it is a self-financing and self-operating tertiary institution. In 2011, the college began offering four-year degree-bearing courses to its students, the first of which was a Bachelor of Business Administration.

2009

  • The TWGHs decided to set up a post-secondary educational institution.
  • 2010

  • The beginning of the year, the Board of Directors of the TWGHs formally established 'Tung Wah Tertiary Institute'.
  • In October, the Institute invited the former executive vice president Professor Thomas Wong of Hong Kong Polytechnic University to be the founding president.
  • 2011

  • In April, the institute was renamed the Tung Wah College.
  • In May, the College was accredited by Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, and was recognised by the Education Bureau as a recognised tertiary institution.
  • In September, a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) programme commenced.
  • In October, the two-year Higher Diploma in Nursing programme commenced.
  • In November, the Department of Medical Sciences was established.
  • 2012

  • In February, the government included the College in the sixth round of matching funds.
  • In September, the five-year Bachelor of Health Science (Hons) (majoring in nursing), the four-year Bachelor of Health Science (Hons) (major in Applied Gerontology), the four-year Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) degree programme (majoring in psychology), the two-year associate's in Health Studies and the two-year Associate of Social Science programmes commenced.
  • In October Tung Wah College signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Sydney, Australia.
  • In November, Tung Wah College announced that the principal Thomas Wong resigned for health reasons.
  • In December, Tung Wah College President Thomas Wong decided to remain in the post of Principal.
  • 2013

  • In January, the four-year Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons) programme commenced (major in basic medical science, forensic science, medical laboratory science, radiation therapy, and animal health studies).
  • In February, Tung Wah College announced the commencement of occupational therapy degree programme in 2013 school year, the commencement of both embryonic and reproductive medicine elective courses, as well as the commencement of Hong Kong's first Bachelor of Social Sciences programme managed by a non-profit organisation in 2014 school year.
