Tung Tau Estate (Chinese: 東頭邨) is a public housing estate and Tenants Purchase Scheme estate in the south of Wong Tai Sin. It is divided into Tung Tau (I) Estate (東頭(一)邨) and Tung Tau (II) Estate (東頭(二)邨). Tung Tau (I) Estate has only one resettlement block, Block 22, built in 1965. Tung Tau (II) Estate has other 20 blocks built after its redevelopment in the 1980s and the 1990s.

Contents

Although the estate is near Kowloon City, it is under the administrative jurisdiction of Wong Tai Sin District rather than Kowloon City District because it is located at the northeast of Tung Tsing Road (東正道), the boundary between two districts.

Background

Tung Tau Estate was a resettlement estate which had a total of 23 blocks (21 Mark II and 2 Mark IV) built in the 1960s. All 21 Mark II blocks were demolished to redevelop the 20 new blocks in the 1980s and the 1990s. In 2002, some of the flats on the estate (except Block 22) were sold to tenants through the Tenants Purchase Scheme Phase 5. Block 23 was demolished in 2003. The site is under construction and two blocks will be built in 2011 and 2012. Now only Block 22 is retained, but it was scheduled to be demolished in 2012.
