It formerly had Tullynessle Tower, which is now gone. It was the summer residence of Patrick Forbes of Carse, the Bishop of Aberdeen from 1564 to 1635. It also has Terpersie Castle, which is privately owned. It has a primary school, Tullynessle Primary School. Its pupils attend Alford Academy for their secondary education.
