History

True Myth, a progressive rock band signed by A&R man Gary Muth, released their self-titled Warner Bros. Records album in 1979. This was only the second digitally-recorded album ever produced and a first in Canada. Tom Treumuth and Gary Furniss co-produced the album, and also co-produced such bands as The Fictions, The Demics, Figgy Duff and The Briet Brothers. Tom also produced albums for Helix and Honeymoon Suite in Canada.

Their first album, True Myth, on Warner Bros. Records, was recorded live to a two-track digital recorder called "Soundstream". The album's technical producer was Jack Richardson (Guess Who, Bob Seger and Alice Cooper, among others).

The members for this album were:

  • Tony Cook (guitar)
  • Brian Bolliger (drums)
  • Steve McKenna (bass/slide guitar)
  • Bruce Cumming (vocals)
  • Tom Treumuth (many keyboards)
  • Additional musicians included:

  • Ian Thomas (background vocals)
  • Marek Norman (background vocals)
  • Erik Cadeski (percussion and wind-up fish in a tank)
  • Matt McKenna (guitar and organ)
  • The first album met with critical acclaim. Not long after that, the Tom Treumuth and Gary Furniss formed their own independent label, Hypnotic, where True Myth's second (and last) album Telegram was released through that company. Some of this album was recorded with Daniel Lanois engineering at Grant Avenue Studios in Hamilton, Ontario.

The band made some line-up changes before and during the making of Telegram. The musicians who played on this album were:

  • Kirk Devereux (drums)
  • Brian Bolliger (drums)
  • Malcolm McGuigan (vocals)
  • Steve McKenna (bass)
  • Bob Stirajs (guitar)
  • Tom Treumuth (keyboards)
  • Tony Cook (guitar)
