Although he didn't get the win, Ryu Hyun-jin (36-Toronto Blue Jays)'s trademarked "slow curve" was once again in the spotlight.

Ryu started the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series against the Texas Rangers at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Wednesday (July 13) and pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits (one home run) with five strikeouts and one walk.

Trailing 0-3 in the top of the seventh, Ryu was relieved by Garcia and suffered his third loss of the season as Toronto fell to 3-6.

He took the loss as the offense struggled, but he didn't pitch badly.

It was the first time in 480 days that Ryu had pitched a quality start (six or more innings and three or fewer earned runs) since his return in August of this year, 토토사이트 14 months after undergoing elbow ligament reconstruction surgery (Tommy John surgery) in June of last year, when he threw six scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds.

Local media outlets praised Ryu for getting Nathaniel Lowe to ground out to first base with one out in the top of the fourth inning.

After working the count with a fastball and a cut fastball, Ryu unleashed a 62.6 mph (100.7 km/h) curveball for a four-pitch strikeout.

"Ryu's lethal 63-mph pitch froze Lowe," Sports Illustrated (SI) wrote of the play, "and the look on Lowe's face as he walked back to the dugout was unmistakable. 스포츠토토 The look on his face as he walked back to the dugout was unrecognizable."

"Ryu threw a series of 87-mile-per-hour fastballs and then used a 63-mile-per-hour curveball to get rid of Lowe." "Ryu struck out five, but none of them were as strategic as the slow curveball he threw to Lowe."

MLB.com posted a video of the play on its official social media account and said, "Ryu's 63-mile-per-hour fastball completely froze the batter."

Some outlets highlighted Ryu's first quality start since returning from an elbow injury.

"This is the first time Ryu has gone more than five innings this season," said CBS Sports. "Ryu has pitched 40 innings since Aug. 2, when he returned from the Tommy John surgery, with a 2.93 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 33-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio," 스포츠토토맨 said CBS Sports, noting that Ryu has been solid since his return.
