Trausti Stefánsson (born 20 January 1985) is an Icelandic sprinter and a current holder of the Icelandic record in the 400-meter sprint (indoors).

Early years

Trausti Stefánsson was born on 20 January 1985 in Reykjavík. From the moment he took his first steps it became obvious that he was blessed with speed of the gods. Trausti's older brother was a basketball fanatic and so the little brother would try to become a professional basketball player with the Charlotte Hornets. Basketball would be his main interest throughout his childhood although he did like watching football. Basketball was very popular at the if Trausti's childhood and especially in his neighbourhood Breiðholt where his lifelong idol, Herbert Arnarson, played for the local team. He has often said that he tried to pattern his playing style.

Basketball career

Trausti played with his local team Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur until the age of 20 when he finally realized his future was in track and field. He played the point guard position because of his acceleration and speed.

Track and field

Trausti starting doing track and field at the age of 20 with his local club Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. When Trausti realized that Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur was not the best team in track and field he switched to Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar but the irony of fate was as soon as he had switched, Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur gained the upper hand and became the greatest sport establishment in track and field.

2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships

Trausti was selected to represent Iceland at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He participated in the 400 metres. His time was not his personal best and he ended in 22nd place out of 31.
