In 2011, the city council of Tranum concluded a deal with the Danish "Bredbånd Nord" for a communal 1 GB/s Internet connection. Tranum thus became amongst the first cities in Europe fully wired with such fast access.

History

Tranum was first mentioned in 1471 as ”Trannum”, which originates from the bird, crane (trane in Danish) and the ending –um, which meant ”home”. The church of Tranum was built around 1200, whilst the tower was constructed in 1763.

The first settlement is traced back to the area around “Klithuse “in “Sandmosen” and the findings of small buildings in “Koldmosen”.

In 1610 Christian 4th decided that property taxes were deleted, which caused a lot of people to move to Tranum, but people moved away because of a severe sand drift. Therefore, “Tranum plantage” was built to prevent the sand drift.
