Description

The mural was commissioned in 1937, and done in egg tempera and oil paint, it is 11' 6" tall and 31 feet long. The Kansas state legislature objected to the mural, and the artist left it unsigned.

Analysis

The mural depicts John Brown in the prelude to the Civil War, during the bleeding Kansas unrest. A study for the mural is in the Spencer Museum.
