It is a family run company, founded in 1979 by the managing director; Alan Simpson who has over 36 years’ experience within the toy trade.

Toytown currently employs over 100 staff and operates 22 stores in total, 8 in Northern Ireland, 2 in the Republic of Ireland and 12 in England and Scotland. The company is still expanding over the UK and Ireland.
In 2001 Toytown expanded into Scotland.
In 2006 Toytown opened their first concession store.
In 2007 Toytown opened their first outlet branch.
In 2008 Toytown due to the growth of their concession business began to open stores within department stores throughout the UK.
In 2011 Toytown expanded into Ireland.
In 2013 Toytown won the British Association of Toy Retailers Toy Shop Of The Year award in the multiple category (up to 30 branches) and then shortlisted for Toy Shop Of The Year in 2014 and 2015.
Toytown were a founding member of AIS Play-Room. Toytown are the largest Play-Room member.
