ToyGuard works exclusively within the professional childcare sector within the UK. It was spun out of a specialist cleaning company ER Environmental, based near Cirencester in Gloucestershire. In 2006, ER Environmental was tasked to decontaminate a nursery on the grounds of Lauder College, Dunfermline, which had been infected with E. Coli. At the time this was national news and headlined the BBC 6 o'clock news nationally at the time. The cause of the outbreak was never identified however the NHS report on the outbreak praised both the nursery and ER Environmental Services with the way in which the outbreak was dealt with and all traces removed.
