Early life
Kagan was born in Haifa, Israel, and moved to Sunnyvale, California with his family at age four. He holds a bachelor's degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from University of California, Santa Cruz, and paid his way through college by starting the T-shirt company Static Printing. While in college, he founded and led the Jewish fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi. After graduating, he also founded the branding company Your Logo Here.
Quixey
Kagan co-founded Quixey in 2009. He met his co-founder Liron Shapira, as well as many Quixey employees, through the Jewish youth organization BBYO, of which he is a "longstanding member". In 2011, Forbes Magazine named him one of their "30 under 30" in technology for Quixey's success. According to Kagan, his aim is for Quixey to compete directly with Google in the search market.
Activities
Kagan has spoken at the Mobile World Congress and World Economic Forum. He is a volunteer advisor for a chapter of Aleph Zadik Aleph, the fraternity branch of BBYO. Kagan is also a board member of and donor to the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, an artificial intelligence nonprofit, and is a supporter of effective altruism. He identifies as a "futurist", and works with the National Science Foundation on emerging technologies.
