Amateur career
Whitney was born in South Lake Tahoe, California and resides in Fort Collins, Colorado. He attended La Quinta High School in La Quinta, California. After high school, he attended the United States Air Force Academy. Whitney won four collegiate tournaments and set four low-scoring school records in his college career. Whitney also competed in the 2009 U.S. Amateur and the 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links. Whitney completed his college career as a two-time GCAA All-America Scholar and a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award.
Professional career
Whitney turned professional in 2010 after graduating from the US Air Force Academy. His first pro tournament was a sponsor's exemption to the 2010 Colorado Open, where he finished T32. Whitney made the cut at his debut Web.com Tour event at the Utah Championship in 2015and tied for 63rd. He played on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica in 2016 with a best finished of second at the Roberto De Vicenzo Punta del Este Open Copa NEC.
Military service
Whitney served four years active duty in the U.S. military as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He was assigned to the 319th Missile Squadron at FE Warren AFB, Wyoming.
