Tom Toumazis MBE is Chairman and Founder of the Childline Board, part of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in the United Kingdom, and a member of the charity's National Volunteer Board. Toumazis is a founder investor and chair of two start-up companies, TVbeat and Tagsmart. In December 2015 was appointed as TheLADbible Group’s first non-executive director, prior to the company’s first round of funding. He was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday 2015 Honours List for services to children.

Education

Toumazis attended London South Bank University from 1981 to 1983. He attended Harvard Business School in 1999.

Career

Toumazis has worked in the media and entertainment industry since 1983. He has held a number of advertising sales positions within ITV companies including LWT, STV, HTV and Meridian. In 1994 became Deputy Managing Director at ITV. Toumazis had held the role of Head of Partnerships, EMEA at Yahoo and used to be the Chief Executive of Mecom Group.

Before Yahoo and Mecom, Toumazis was the Chief Commercial Officer of Endemol Group.

From January 2009, he managed the successful expansion and diversification of Endemol’s worldwide commercial interests and managed Endemol Sport, which has become the fastest-growing sports media company in Europe. Tom was also Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Disney-ABC-ESPN Television in charge of programme, new media and channel distribution. He had joined the Walt Disney Company in 2001 from Emap, where he held a number of positions, including Managing Director of Emap Advertising During his time at Emap, he completed the General Manager Programme at Harvard Business School.

Charitable contributions

As Chair of the Childline Board, Tom Toumazis was awarded an MBE for his contributions in helping to raise over £8 million for Childline.

Chairman and Founder of the Childline Board, a member of the charity’s National Development Fundraising Board, Tom is also an Honorary Member of the NSPCC Council.

“I stumbled into connecting with Childline. I couldn't get into the 2004 London Marathon Ballot, so a friend got two slots to run for Childline. He pulled out but I ran alongside Dan Gopal, another person from Disney, who has been connected to Childline and the rest is history”, Toumazis said in May 2015.

Toumazis launched the Childline 20 Board in 2005 to mark Childline’s 20th anniversary. Under his stewardship, the Childline Board raised £8.29m and introduced a number of media and entertainment companies to Childline including Disney, Reuters, Discovery, Trinity Mirror, ITV, Google and Yahoo.

In 2012, Toumazis co-founded the Monday Movie Club with the support of the US and UK film distributors. The monthly screenings have raised over £250,000.

Childline has worked with TV shows such as Downton Abbey, Britain's Got Talent, X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, and I'm a Celebrity.

Toumazis has run seven London Marathons for Childline, most recently in 2016, running with his two sons, Christopher and Gabriel in Childline's 30th anniversary year.

Toumazis’s wife Helen is a Childline volunteer counsellor.
