Rowing career

Laurich first represented at the national level in sculling. He was a medallist in the single scull at World Junior championships, a member of the Senior quad scull at the 2001 World championships, the Sydney Olympics single scull trialist, and national double scull champion with Mosman's Peter Hardcastle. He then shifted to sweep rowing and was in the coxed pair that won the Australian men's team their only medal in the Seville World Championships in 2003.

Laurich represented Australia at the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics in the men's four. His crew of David Dennis, Robert Jahrling, and David McGowan, recorded a time of 6.13.06 in the finals, which gave them a fourth-place finish.

He gained a place in the Australian men's eight at world championships in 2006 and 2007 and in the 2008 Beijing Olympics he rowed in the four seat of the men's eight.
