Togo Renan Soares, nicknamed Kanela (May 22, 1906 – December 12, 1992) was a Brazilian basketball coach. The gymnasium of Gávea is named after him. He was enshrined into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2007.

Club career
Kanela was born in João Pessoa. He coached the Brazilian League club Flamengo from 1948 to 1970, leading them to victory in the Rio de Janeiro Regional League 12 times, including 10 years in a row, between 1951 and 1960.
Brazilian national team
Kanela also coached the senior Brazilian national basketball team from 1951 to 1971. He led them to two championships at the FIBA World Championship, in 1959 (beating the USSR in the final game) and 1963 (beating the USA in the final game). He also led them to a silver medal in the 1954 FIBA World Championship and 1970 FIBA World Championship, to a bronze medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics, a bronze medal in 1967 FIBA World Championship, a silver medal in the 1963 Pan American Games, bronze medals in the 1951 Pan American Games and 1959 Pan American Games, and to five gold medals at the South American Championship (in 1958, 1960, 1961, 1963, and 1971).
Personal
Soares died in Rio de Janeiro, aged 86.
