Timothy Jude Smith, later known as Timmy Trumpet, is from Sydney. While a youth he attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. 'The Sydney Conservatorium of Music Access Program' included free weekly tutorial from Sydney Symphony Orchestra's Anthony Heinrich. According to an interview with Scene Magazine, Smith left the Conservatorium of Music in year 9 after "setting off a fire alarm". He moved to Carlingford High School in Sydney, a public school. However, he says the move to a public school system was positive as it allowed him to become more involved in jazz music.
