Deep-water soloing, without ropes or gear and using the ocean as the safety net, originated on the coasts of Dorset so Emmett was well positioned and at the right age to help take it forward. In 2003, a short film 'Psicobloc' by American brothers Josh and Brett Lowell on the sport went on to win awards globally.

With para-alpinism, he merged two high adventure sports together—BASE jumping and big wall climbing. After ascending a large wall on vertical rock, he put a parachute on to descend down. Only a handful of people do this type of climbing, and he himself retired from it at the age of 40 due to its high risk.

Media

Emmett has appeared in more than 50 magazines that of which include Outside Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Gripped, Grip, Desnivel, GQ and others. He is a well-renowned motivational speaker for students and fellow adventure sportsmen. He has presented the Duke Of Edinburgh Award twice at St. James's Palace.

Television appearances

Emmett has made frequent appearances on the BBC both as a presenter and guest. Appearances include: "Ultimate Rock Climb" with Julia Bradbury, "The Great Climb" with fellow British climber Dave MacLeod and "Top Gear" with Jeremy Clarkson racing up a mountain with Leo Houlding. Tim has also worked with Steve Backshall on his children's show and personally partnered with him on a trip to Baffin Island in 2012.
