History

The company was created in 1996 by Charles-Antoine Descotis via his adventure of travelling through India, where he enjoyed living and sleeping in hammocks for two years. At that time he was using the self made hammock made from polyester, mostly to protect himself from insects and dirt. When he arrived in Bali, he discovered a nylon material. He recognized the potential of the material as it was light, durable, elastic, breathable, anti-mildew and skin-friendly so he began making hammocks from this. His hammocks initially were made in his own home, and eventually he opened a small factory in Kerobokan, Bali in 2004 with 20 employees. Since then, the company has continued to grow and its hammocks have gained popularity reaching adventurers and dreamers from all over the world.

Products

TTTM’s product range includes Parachute Hammocks in five different sizes and in thousands of colour combinations, as well as moonchairs for adults and children. With the offcuts from eco friendly fabric used, backpacks, market bags, keyring bags and foldable frisbees are made. For installation of the hammocks, the company supplies nautical ropes, as well as tree friendly straps. After many trials and design development, the hammock can take as little as 90 seconds to set up

Programs and initiatives

TTTM holds very strong ethical values. There is absolutely no child labor, all staff are provided with above healthy working conditions as well as social security, pension, and a basic salary that is far higher than the minimum wage in Bali. Also, the ecological impacts from the company are always taken into consideration. All hammocks are made from locally available materials and recycling of waste is encouraged.

Ticket to the Moon Foundation

In 2009, the Ticket To The Moon Foundation was created to formalize and provide assistance to the Sumbanese Kodi Tribe, based in East Indonesia. According to anthropologists the Kodi culture is the closest observed living culture to the neolithic and Bronze Ages. The Kodi people live in the traditional houses in the wild landscape of Mandorak County. The Kodis are very crafty people and their art is unique. Nevertheless, with no access to water or electricity, the population from Mandorak is struggling to survive with subsistence agriculture and fishing, its main income relying on a yearly cashew harvest. That is why the Foundation initiated by European travelers led by Charly Descotis provides a relief program for the Sumbanese Kodi tribe to preserve their culture and traditions. The TTTM foundation assists them in particular with issues surrounding health, education, culture and development. The Foundation also offers the opportunity for other businesses or individuals to contribute to their relief program. In three years, many concrete actions have been implemented-new road were built to facilitate trade and fill in the gap between the Kodis and the rest of Sumba a water well was dug for accessing clean water a primary school Ticket To The Moon made a conscious decision once the Foundation was established to contribute approximately 10% of its annual profit
