Opinion at thurston community college
Thurston Community College is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Thurston, Suffolk, England.
Contents
Constructed in the 1970s, it is the largest school in West Suffolk, with over 1,600 students aged 11–18 drawn from the local village and surrounding largely rural communities. Facilities include a community library, a large sixth form centre (based in Beyton) and an Air Training Corps building. It has a total staff of around 170.
The school's houses are named after famous British people with Suffolk connections, including Thomas Gainsborough and Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. It is a specialist science college.
In its most recent Ofsted inspection report in 2013, the school was rated Good. However, in 2010 the school was rated outstanding.
In September 2014, the school undertook a large transition in order to become a secondary school and follow the two-tier education structure. Because of this, the Thurston Sixth Form Centre was relocated to Beyton, on the old site of Beyton Middle School, and is now known as Thurston Sixth: Beyton Campus. The same staff work across both sites. The old Sixth Form Centre is now a Humanities department which also is the home of the new house, Wolsey. Consequently, the minimum year group was lowered from Year 9 to Year 7 students.
