Deputy Chief Thomas Matthews is a fictional character in the Showtime television series Dexter. He was portrayed by Geoff Pierson in the television series. He is a captain in the fictitious Miami-Metro Homicide Department, and the highest known superior officer of Dexter and Debra Morgan.
Character history
Thomas Matthews was a close friends and colleague of Dexter and Debra's father, Harry; just before Harry committed suicide, Harry asked Matthews to look after his children.
In the series, Matthews is the Deputy Chief of the Miami-Metro Homicide Department. In season 6 he is blackmailed by his longtime nemesis, Lieutenant María LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez) after she finds his name on a prostitute's ledger. After Debra discovers he was present at the prostitute's death, and LaGuerta brings the news to the public, he is forced to retire. In season 7, he helps LaGuerta in her search for the Bay Harbor Butcher - who, unbenkwnst to him, is none other than Dexter.
