Thinwires, LLC, headquartered in Amherst, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, NY, is a Delaware based Limited Liability Company established in the year 2003. Originally offering paid and free Wi-Fi (802.11x) internet service through regional restaurants and cafés, Thinwires later expanded its service into the hospitality industry– servicing many notable brand name hotel and resort properties; expanding its footprint throughout North America and into the Caribbean.

Thinwires' hospitality offering for hotels, and resorts is known as GuestSpot. Previously, it was called HotelSpot. Through its HomeSpot solution, Thinwires also offers high-speed Internet access (HSIA) and support for multi-dwelling unit (MDU) residential communities including apartment complexes, university dormitories, and condominiums. Additional services include public/municipal Wi-Fi services, telephone support for customers through its US-based call center, network design and consulting, as well as sales of network hardware.

Notable projects

  • Provided technology and worked with other regional companies and organizations on the BuffaloWiFi.org project. An effort (now defunct) to bring free wireless Internet to a number of public locations throughout the Western New York area; primarily around the City of Buffalo.
  • Provided on-site support to aid in re-establishing communication after hurricane Katrina through a coalition of technology developers and volunteers (http://www.radioresponse.org/).
