They Cage the Animals at Night (1984) is the autobiography of Jennings Michael Burch. It tells the story of his childhood with an epilogue of what happened to the family's members. In the book, he talks about how he is pushed around from foster home to foster home, his horrible experiences, also including his good ones, and how he made it through his childhood years holding on to a single stuffed animal named "Doggie".
