Therese Hirst, born Therese Muchewicz, is a British politician. She is deputy chairman of the English Democrats, and was secretary and leader of the Veritas Party.

Biography

According to the English Democrat Party Web site, Muchewicz was educated at Durham University, where she read theology. She later studied at the University of Leeds after completing a postgraduate Law degree. She worked as a teacher of religious education and a part-time law lecturer before retiring in 1995. After retiring, she became involved in her local community of Bradford, chairing the Bradford Community Housing Trust and dealing with issues surrounding the Bradford riots of 2001.

Hirst was a founding member of Veritas in early 2005. She contested the Bradford South constituency in the 2005 general election, with 421 votes (1.2% of the total). She later became the party secretary with responsibility for a number of party processes. When leader Patrick Eston resigned she became leader of the party.

Veritas merged into the English Democrats in 2015.

Muchewicz stood for Bradford West at the 2015 general election, placing last with 98 votes (0.2%). She was their candidate for West Yorkshire in the 2016 Police and Crime Commissioner elections. She came last with 3.9% of the vote.

She stood in the Batley and Spen by-election, 2016 and received 4.75% of the votes.
