Overview
Founded in 2000, The Woodlands Preparatory School is a nonsectarian college preparatory day school enrolling a total of 335 girls and boys in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school sits in the heart of The Woodlands, Texas, which has become a very international community serving families of executives in companies related to the oil and gas industries. With this in mind, Woodlands Prep School places an emphasis on math and science, and after six graduating classes, we have noted the trend to be more than 50% of our graduates enter a technical field, such as engineering, in their first year of college. The Woodlands continues to grow residentially and commercially as many companies move to the area. Serving a very affluent clientele provides some wonderful benefits, though it also serves to challenge the school. Due to corporate relocation, students enter and exit the school at varying times throughout the year and come from countries and systems all over the world providing teachers with the challenges of ensuring that curricular gaps are assessed including those faced by our many non-native English speakers. The international population, however, also offers a unique perspective in class discussions providing all of our students with a more comprehensive outlook of the world in which they live.
In October of 2013, the school was purchased by Luis Alberto Ruiz Guerrero, a Mexican businessman, and converted from a non-profit to a for-profit school.
As of 2015 it had 400 students, with 75% living within the boundaries of the Conroe Independent School District.
Campus
At that time it had a plan for additional construction in four phases, along with standalone projects for laboratories, foreign language education, and a science education facility.. Phase I includes a soccer (association football) field and parking facilities. Phase II includes a culinary educational center, cafeteria, and kitchen. Phase II includes an Olympic Gymnasium and a fine arts facility, located together in what would be the "South Building." The fourth phase includes an expansion of athletic facilities and a student residence hall with twelve rooms.
