Luxury oud oil from agarwood the treedom group
The Treedom Group is a manufacturer of agarwood oil, also known as oud oil or dehn al oud in Arabic. Headquartered in Bangkok, with the distillation facility in Trat Province in eastern Thailand, the company was formed in 2006.
Contents
The tree species grown and distilled by the company to create oud products is Aquilaria crassna, a large species native to Thailand found in southeast Asia. Aquilaria is also an endangered species protected by CITES, when oud oil is to be exported there must always be an approved CITES certificate for legal trade.
Oud oil is an aromatic essential oil distilled from the black resin within the agarwood tree; the oil is usually dark, caramel-colored, with a distinctively woody, aromatic scent. The quality and price of the oil can vary.
Soil management is important for the cultivation of agarwood trees.
History
The group was founded by Andrew Steel in 2006 originally as Asia Forestry Management Ltd, a forestry management company in Thailand, specialising in Aquilaria cultivation. In 2007 Equitech Ltd was formed to offer consultancy services in the forestry and forestry carbon sector, and in 2008 Asia Forestry Distillery Ltd was established and an oil distillation facility opened in Trat province, Thailand initially with 59 distillation units. The company's own plant nurseries were established in Thailand in 2009, to cultivate Aquilaria saplings.
The company was re-structured in Thailand in 2012 to establish Treedom (Thailand) Ltd as part of the Treedom Group, and in the company opened an office in Dubai. The company became a member that year of the International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades (IFEAT). Later that year, the factory in Thailand expanded to 119 distillation units, the brand Dar al Oud was launched, and Treedom Ltd opened in Hong Kong.
In 2013 the plantations and factory received ISO 9001:2008 accreditation, and was certified by Thailand Halal.
In 2015 the company signed an agreement with Swarovski for resale of oud oil in crystal decanters.
