The Safety Council of Northwest Ohio (SCNWO) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides resources to the public of northwest Ohio for safety, health and environmental issues. SCNWO started in 1960 with the goal of becoming a resource for safety education. The Board of Directors for the Safety Council consists of volunteer members for the community of northwest Ohio including people from the public, judicial, law enforcement, fire and rescue, medical, academia and private sectors. The Safety Council of Northwest Ohio is also a chartered member of the American Association of Safety councils.

Mission statement

The Safety Council was established to help the community by providing safety education through the resources and training programs it provides that meet and exceed OSHA standards. According to its website, SCNWO is the resource for all safety, health and environmental issues in Northwest Ohio.

History

The Safety Council was chartered in 1960 with a mission to improve the quality of life through enhancement of the safety and health of people, the economy and the environment and by providing education and resources to Northwest Ohio.

Programs and offers

The Safety Council of Northwest Ohio offers a variety of training programs. They have certified instructors in a variety of fields. The programs include but are not limited to Forklift Operator Training, First Aid & CPR, Driving Programs, OSHA General Industry, Safety Breakfasts/Luncheons.

COSS program

The Certified Occupational Safety Specialist program (COSS) is the curriculum-based certification that provides accelerated learning in the essentials of safety, occupational health and OSHA training requirements. Anyone that is a COSS is in the safety and health field. They coordinate the implementation of corporate safety and health plans, coordinates and possibly conducts safety and health training, and provides support to safety and training managers.

Membership

A typical annual fee can range from between $130 to $390 depending on how many employees are present within a company.
