Historical Origins
The origins of the drink are not known for certain, but one theory places the first known occurrence of the drink in a Purvis Street Bar, right next to Raffles Hotel (of Singapore Sling fame). It is also believed that the drink was originally created for the anniversary of a Mr. Russler or Mr. Russell, most likely part of the notable Russler family (Roussel in the original Norman, with experience in colonial territories including Australia and India. It is believed that the cinnamon was added to dampen the almost cloying sweetness of the Amaretto as a nod to Mr. Russell's alleged connection to the Indian sub-continent.
