The Rua are a family pop rock band from Windsor, England. The band consists of sisters, Roseanna (Lead Vocals, guitar), Alanna (Piano, backing vocals) and brother, Jonathan Brown (violin, vocals, guitar). They were signed by Independent label FOD Records and released their debut single "Fight For Whats Right' in 2015, which reached a peak of no. 42 in the Hot AC airplay chart in the United States.

The Rua grew up in Windsor, Berkshire, however their family roots are all from Ireland, where they spent a lot of their time growing up, playing music and taking part in music competitions. They were all classically trained on piano, violin and voice and performed together from when they were all young. The trio formed as a band in 2011 and started writing their own material together. They were influenced by all types and genres of music, especially from growing up in such a musical family. Artists such as Fleetwood Mac, U2, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, The Corrs, Taylor Swift, Adele, have had a lot of musical affect on the group and their writing.

Essence

After hearing the home demos of their songs, they were signed in 2013 by Independent label FOD records and began the process of recording their first album. To play on the album with The Rua, FOD brought in Nigel Harrison, former bass player of the rock band Blondie and writer of hit song, 'One Way Or Another'. Nigel also co-wrote one of the songs on the album with the band called, 'Into the crowd'. On drums they brought in Clive Deamer, who is best known for playing in Portishead, Get the Blessing, and Radiohead. On Keys/Synth Mike Rowe who plays with Noel Gallagher High Flying birds and on electric guitar Danny Robinson, who played Jimi Hendrix in The Hendrix Experience, with original bassist Billy Cox.

"As Good As It Gets" is the only other co-written on their album Essence, which was written with Rob Davis, who wrote Kylie Minogue, 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' and was original lead guitar player in the band Mud (band)

Their first single "Fight For What's Right" was released in the United States in February 2015. The video for the single was directed by Frank Borin and was filmed in New York City.

After spending most of 2015 touring the United States visiting radio stations, their single "Fight For Whats Right", reached no. 42 in the Hot AC (Hot Adult Contemporary) Mediabase Airplay chart in December 2015. During their time touring in America in 2015 they played gigs with, Rachel Platten, Adam Lambert, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Karmin, A Great Big World, The Score and Third Eye Blind.

The second single off their debut album Essence was "Without You" and was released in May 2016. The video for this single was directed by Declan Whitebloom, who has directed videos for Taylor Swift, ("We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"), Jess Glynn, Demi Lovato and One Direction. On its first week at Hot AC Radio in the United States it was 4th most added song tied with Zara Larsson and MNEK's "I will never forget you".

On the 20th May 2016 The Rua debut their new single for the first time in Ireland, as guests performing on "The Late Late Show" in Dublin.

It's Dance remix by Love To Infinity secured no. 3 Breakout spot on the Billboard charts Club/Dance Songs Chart and Peaked at no. 17 in the Billboard Club/Dance Chart.

Film

All three have also appeared in the Harry Potter film series. Alanna was in Gryffindor and appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (film), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (film). Roseanna in Slytherin appeared in, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (film), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (film). Jonathan was in Hufflepuff and appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Saying "it was one of the best experiences we have ever had... it was like being part of a big family". They have also been in films separately. Roseanna appeared in, Thor: The Dark World, Maleficent (film) and Snow White and the Huntsman. Alanna in Closer (2004 film) and Jonathan in Dark shadows and Last Chance Harvey.
