Chart information

In the US, the single reached number sixty-one on the Billboard Hot 100, number eight on the Hot R&B Songs chart. "The Right Kinda Lover" was Patti LaBelle's second number one on the Hot Dance/Club Play chart. Overseas, the single and also reached number fifty on the UK Top 75 and was her most successful in years. The song's video featured LaBelle performing a seductress choosing her choice of mate.
