The Puck Podcast is a weekly podcast about ice hockey, primarily focused on analysis, opinions and information relating to the National Hockey League (NHL). The show is hosted by Eddie Garcia and Doug Stolhand and has been running since 2006.

Format

The show is usually around two hours long and is divided into three "periods," based on the structure of a hockey game.

  • The first period starts with general discussion between the hosts and then focuses on news from the last week in the NHL.
  • The second period usually includes feature content such as interviews, reviews, and guests.
  • The third period is focused on the listeners of the show, with the hosts reading emails, posts from Facebook and Twitter, and contributions from listeners called "fan correspondence."

    • History

    The show was started in 2006 as a reaction to the lack of media coverage the NHL was receiving, especially in Southern California. In a podcast from July 28, 2015 the hosts talk about the history of the show and why they chose to start it. The show format has remained almost unchanged since the beginning, with minor tweaks to the contents of each period. The first few episodes contained explicit language, however the show quickly moved to clean language.

    Hosts

    Eddie Garcia and Doug Stolhand both work in sports media and met while in college at Fresno State in California. They are both former radio broadcasters for the Fresno Falcons and have been members of the NHL Media since 2006.

  • Eddie works for Fox Sports Radio on The Ben Maller Show as a co-host, and presents a weekly "Puck The World" hockey segment
  • Doug Stolhand works for FOX Sports.

    The Puck Podcast was voted the number one hockey podcast by The Bleacher Report in 2010, in an article ranking the top 10 hockey related podcasts on the internet.
