History

In the late 1950s, TPH®'s founder Earle O'Born began his career as a journeyman typesetter. The Printing House was born in 1961 when Earle purchased an old letterpress shop in downtown Toronto for $500, in order to learn more about the print industry. The second branch was opened at Millwood and Laird in 1965, and by the end of the '60s, TPH had expanded to 12 branches across Toronto. Throughout the '70s, '80s and '90s, TPH® expanded to become a nationwide company, opening locations in Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, Halifax and Dartmouth. Today, the company has 70 company-owned locations across the country and has remained a leader in providing creative solutions in the printing industry.

Environmental Initiatives

The Printing House has taken on several environmental initiatives in an effort to maintain sustainable practices across the company. TPH® was recognized as North America's fourth most friendly printer in Canopy's 2015 Blueline Report, based on standards for responsible paper sourcing. In addition to recycling and purchasing only from environmentally conscious suppliers, the company also has three environmental certifications including the Forest Stewardship Council, The Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. In 2016, TPH announced its partnership with WWF-Canada, supporting their efforts to conserve the planet's natural environment.

Charitable Office

TPH® is one of the only printing companies in Canada with its own separate charitable wing. Established in 1985, the TPH® Charitable Office helps registered Canadian charities in the community through donations of services, time and money. The focus of the Charitable Office is to provide aid in health care and education, especially for women and children across Canada. Notable charitable initiatives of the company include the employee Payroll Participation Program, in which employees are given the option to donate a portion of their income to a designated charity, and the Charitable Greeting Card Campaign, with 100% of proceeds going towards a registered Canadian charity.
