History
The Preiss Company was founded in 1987 by Donna Preiss. She is the current chief executive officer (CEO) of the company. She serves on the Executive Council of NMHC, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board and is a member of the NAA National Student Housing Committee. The company acquired six student housing properties in 2012–13. On 5 July 2013, it acquired the Canopy Apartments in Gainesville for $36.25 million.

The Preiss Company is currently the 3rd largest privately held student housing provider in United States and the 5th largest 3rd party student housing manager. It is currently owning and operating properties in 17 states. Their portfolio comprises over 28,000 beds in 33 markets. Services of the company include property management; acquisition and development services, including existing acquisitions, garden development, construction management, development consulting, and ground up construction; and consulting services for on-campus and off-campus partners. The company has affiliation with National Multi-Family Housing Council, Commercial Real Estate Women, Institute of Real Estate Management, Certified Commercial Investment Member, National Apartment Association, Urban Land Institute.
