The The Outstanding Women in Nation’s Service (TOWNS) award is presented by the TOWNS Foundation to outstanding Filipino women ages 21 to 45 years old who have contributed positively to strengthening national capability and shaping the nation’s future and served as catalysts for economic, social and cultural development, national security and national unity by providing their time, talent and resources. The award is given every three years during the last week of October and the search for these women is held nationwide for a period of one year. Since its inception in 1974, TOWNS has cited 149 women.

TOWNS Foundation In is a national organization of dynamic and effective women who by their common shared activities help transform the lives of Filipinos. All TOWNS awardees become automatic members of TOWNS Foundation Inc.

In 1995, the TOWNS Foundation was incorporated to support and harness the talent and capabilities of the TOWNS awardees as members in activities that influence national issues such as workshops and lecture series, regular educational trips, photo and art exhibits, dun runs and publications among others.

Criteria

Nominations are open to Filipino women. Any person, organization or entity may nominate one or more women who meet the following criteria.

  1. Aged between 21 and 45 years old by October 2013.
  2. A Filipino citizen.
  3. Is distinguished in her field of specialization.
  4. Has a well-balanced personality that is worthy of emulation.
  5. Is committed to the promotion of well being and upliftment of the Philippine and Filipinos.
  6. Possesses a pioneering spirit as evidenced by projects that she has initiated in the service of our country.

TOWNS Foundation inc conducts this triennial search for the purpose of identifying outstanding Filipino women who, in their various capacities have served the country well. TOWNS awardees are true role models for Filipino women and girls who wish to dedicate themselves to nation-building.

Evaluation Process

The evaluation process considers the personal, career, and other relevant measures of accomplishments, foremost of which are:

  • Achievement. An evaluation of the nominee’s exceptional accomplishments in her line of specialization or advocacy.
  • It must be proven that she is distinguished in her particular field or advocacy, the distinction backed up by solid achievements, not mere reliance on her public image. She must have done outstanding work even in a small scale as long as it has contributed to the field of knowledge, national well-being, and upliftment of the Filipino people.

  • Personality. An evaluation of a well-balanced personality as evidenced by certain manifestations which would make the nominee worthy of emulation.
  • She must be vibrant and articulate, poised and self-confident, dignified and respectable, and intellectually honest.

  • Commitment. An evaluation of dedication and complete involvement in projects of great significance.
  • She must have shown a totally committed pursuit of a well-defined objective leading to the infusion of knowledge, promotion of well-being and/or upliftment of the Philippines.

  • Pioneering Zeal. An evaluation of her ardent interest and accomplishments in a line of activity that is out of the usual and stereotyped.
  • She should preferably possess a pioneering spirit and has achieved success despite the challenges attendant to new endeavors.
