The Magnificent Seven is an upcoming American crime film directed by Antoine Fuqua, a remake of the 1960 western film of the same name. The film stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent DOnofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Luke Grimes, Wagner Moura, Haley Bennett, Matt Bomer, and Peter Sarsgaard. Principal photography began on May 18, 2015, in the north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The film is set to be released on January 13, 2017.

Production
A remake of the film was reported to be in the planning stages in 2012, with Tom Cruise starring. It was reported that Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, and Matt Damon might join the film. On December 4, 2014, Chris Pratt was in early talks to join Washington in the film. On February 20, 2015, Haley Bennett was set to star as the widow of a man who was murdered, and she hires seven bounty hunters to get revenge. Peter Sarsgaard signed on on May 20, 2015, to play the villain role in the film. Same day, Deadlines Mike Fleming Jr confirmed that Jason Momoa had left the film because he was already booked to play Aquaman. On July 11, 2015, Daily Mirror reported that Vinnie Jones had been set to star in the film.
James Horner was pegged to write the films score. In July 2015, nearly a month after Horners death, Fuqua learned that the score already had been written, and Horner had planned for it to be a surprise.
Filming
Principal photography on the film began on May 18, 2015, in the north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The other locations include St. Francisville and Zachary. Filming would last for 64 days through August 18, 2015. Filming in St. Francisville began on May 18, and concluded on May 29.
Release
On March 29, 2015, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer set the film for the MLK, Jr. weekend, January 13, 2017.
