The Mac Twins are identical twins Lisa and Alana Macfarlane (born 20 May 1988) and are presenters and DJs. Currently they host the Saturday 7pm-11pm show on the digital radio station Virgin Radio UK. Brought up in Edinburgh the twins led separate careers in theatre and dance before joining to become The Mac Twins in 2011.

Early life

Lisa and Alana grew up in Edinburgh in Scotland and both attended Boroughmuir High School.

Since 2005, they have been participating in gut microbiome studies under Tim Spector's TwinsUK study.

Lisa

Lisa left home at 18 moving to London, after declining a place to study medicine at University, to study at the Central School of Speech and Drama. She began working on West End shows becoming one of the UK's youngest theatre producers as well being an arts consultant for the government.

Alana

After school Alana stayed in Edinburgh to study dance at Telford College and founded and co-directed the dance school Gie It Laldy. She moved to London a couple of years later.

Presenting

The Mac Twins first big break was presenting for Verge Magazine covering Wireless Festival and BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. They have appeared on BBC Radio 1xtra (weekly slot), Daybreak, 4od, The Alan Titchmarsh show and BBC free speech.

Currently Lisa and Alana present the Saturday 7pm-11pm show on Virgin Radio UK.

DJing

The Mac Twins played a DJ set at the 2012 Olympic Torch relay. This progressed on to residencies in London clubs such as Whisky Mist, and the W hotel as well as the Lotus Club in Marrakesh and Belgium’s Versuz, Europe’s largest club.

They regularly DJ for the brands Hyundai, Diet Coke, Tia Maria, MAC Cosmetics and Armani. Last year they opened the Sunset Festival to 30,000 people, which has opened doors to a tour of headline festivals this year.
