The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide

The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide Awards is the first and only awards ceremony in Lebanon for movies. It's an annual Lebanese awards ceremony that honors cinematic achievements in film-making. Winners receive a trophy that is nicknamed the LMA. For international movies, distributors would receive the trophies on their behalf. After each LMA a premiere screening is held for a highly anticipated film, the first LMA held a premiere screening for 300: Rise of an Empire, introduced by a special video message from actor Rodrigo Santoro, the film for the second edition will be Focus (2015 film), starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie. Premiering a film after the LMA has ended after a two-year tradition.

The First Annual Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide Awards was held in Vox Cinemas on March 4, 2014. The Second Annual Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide Awards also took place at Vox Cinemas on February 25, 2015. The Third LMAs is set to take place on April 5, 2016 in a new venue, Beirut Souks Cinemacity, Downtown.

Nomination

On November 15, The LMAs announced that on December 15, a press conference will be held to announce the nominees for the Second Annual Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide Awards.

The nominees for the second annual LMAs were revealed during a press conference on December 15, 2014, at Vox Cinemas Lebanon, in the presence of Emile Eid & Lara Rain, followed by a premiere screening of The Seventh Son. During the press conference founder and president Emile Eid, announced that this year the Lebanese categories will expand into eight main categories, including Best Lebanese Director - Motion Picture, Best Lebanese Actor & Actress - Motion Picture and more, as a result of last year's critical success and positive reception of the awards ceremony.

The nominees announcement for The Third Annual LMAs, took place on Future TV with Ghida Majzoub, and Emile Eid on March 2, 2016.

Jury Members

The jury members for the Third Annual LMAs are: Ghida Majzoub, Annabella Hillal, Georges Khabbaz, Jason Lemon, Hassan Mrad, Diamand Bou Abboud, Christine Choueiry, Zeina Daccach, Emile Chahine, Sam Lahoud, Elias Doummar, Wissam Breidy, Lara Saba, Georges El Hachem, Mahmoud Hojeij, Lucien Bou Rjeily, Raya Abi Rached and Gabriel Chamoun.

Jury Members are carefully selected each year, as the LMA cares to keep a track record of prestigious and esteemed figures voting for the nominated films. Each jury member would receive his voting ballot and will have a period of time to cast his votes and return his ballot. All jury members votes are kept confidential at all times. Jury members for the second LMA are: Jassmina Najjar, Emile Chahine, Raya Abirached, Mohamad Hijazi, Elias Doummar, Marie-There Maalouf, Amin Dora, Cynthia Khalife and Cherine Keyrouz.

Jury members for the first edition were: Emile Chahine, Raya Abi Rached, Clint Maximus, Nemr Bou Nassar, John Saad, Elias Doummar, Tareef Sayed, Mohmad Hijazi and Emile Eid.

Cinematic Achievement Award

The cinematic achievement award is awarded to a special recipient who has worked and pushed the boundaries of the Lebanese film industry and who has made a notable contribution to its international recogintion. The first recipient was Georges Khabbaz, who has worked on films such as Ghadi, Void and Under The Bombs. The recipient name would only be announced a few days before the ceremony.

Trivia

  • Warner Brothers Pictures requested the trophies for Best Actress In A Leading Role, Best Director Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture Soundtrack, from the distributor to be shipped to the US in order to be specially delivered respectively to Sandra Bullock, Alfonso Cuaron and Steven Price.
  • While presenting the Award for Best Actor In A Leading Role, actress Lara Rain received the trophy on his behalf and it remained with her, as the film distributor was absent during the ceremony.
