History

The Learning Curve International School (TLC) was started in 2006 in J.P. Nagar, Mysore, by an English couple, Felicity and Terry Gibson. The school was managed by the Prof V. Puttamadappa Education Trust along with the Gibsons from 2013 until 2016 when it was completely handed over to the Trust. The school was moved, in 2013, to a new, bigger campus in Vijaynagar 2nd stage, Mysore, where it is currently located. TLC recently celebrated its tenth anniversary with the release of a newsletter, an introductory film and a completely re-designed website.

Curriculum and extracurricular activities

The Learning Curve was the first International school in Mysore and is, today, among the best in the country with nearly 30% of "Edexcel High Achiever" awardees in 2016 being students of TLC, according to the school's website [1]. TLC follows the Edexcel curriculum with grades from foundation 1 all the way to the International Advanced Levels.

Apart from the subjects students opt for and are trained in, the school has various activities designed to help students mould their life better. Activities like dance, drama and music are a regular part of the student life at TLC. Most grades at the Primary levels have weekly and/or fortnightly excursions. Higher levels too have a number of field trips every year.

There is emphasis on physical education and lots of creative activities for children. Literary, scientific and cultural competitions take place throughout the academic year. Art classes, clay moulding, gardening etc. are all part of a school week.

Newsletter, website and introductory film

On the school's tenth anniversary, its official monthly publication, simply called "TLC Newsletter", was launched. The newsletter is delivered on the second Friday of every month to all existing parents as well as to other outside subscribers. The newsletter is in electronic format in a bid to further the school's attempt to be more environment friendly. An archival of past issues is available from the school website for the public. This is separate from the newly introduced members-only areas that are for the students, parents and staff of TLC.

During its participation in a three-day-long Education fair in February 2016, TLC publicly released its introductory film, a nearly four-minute long, candid film interviewing a few of the teachers, students and parents of the school. It received positive reactions from existing parents and the general public. The film was directed by V.H. Belvadi.

Parents' Association

TLC has a Parents' Association led by a head representative and a few of parent representatives. The Association exists to give parents a voice during their children's years at school. Besides this, the Association is also a platform for parents themselves to meet and socialise, and is particularly useful for international parents who are new to the country. Regular tuck shops, meets and other activities are part of the Association. Membership is optional and free.
