Tucson "Two-Gun" Smith (Guinn "Big Boy" Williams) and Stoney Martin (Al St. John) are wandering cowboys with a thirst for justice. While bringing their cattle through what appears to be a picturesque valley, theyre recruited by spunky Joan Hayden (Molly ODay) and her father (Lafe McKee) to take down a gang of outlaws terrorizing local ranchers. Once Tucson stars looking around, he becomes suspicious of Gordon Rontell (Ted Adams), a lawyer who seems involved in everything.

The Law of 45s is a 1935 American western film directed by John P. McCarthy. The film is also known as The Mysterious Mr. Sheffield in the United Kingdom. Two of the characters, Tucson and Stoney, would later appear played with different actors in the Republic Pictures western series The Three Mesquiteers.
Lawyer Rontel has made Geologist Sheffield his prisoner and by power of attorney is using his money to buy the ranches of those driven off by his hired men. But when he goes after Hayden, Tucson and Stoney arrive and things begin to change.
