The John Downs Show is a news/current events/talk program on Newstalk 1010. It originally started in the fall of 2007 on AM 640 Toronto Radio, where it aired from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on non-hockey weeknights. AM640 canceled the show in August 2010 after the station dropped John from their roster. The show picked up again on Newstalk 1010 Sunday, October 3, 2010 in the 1pm - 5pm timeslot.

Format

The John Downs Show is a news-based talk program that covers local, national, and international issues. It mixes live guest interviews, calls from listeners, and editorial comments from the host.

Contributors

When the program ran on AM640 Toronto Radio, Toronto District School Board Trustee Josh Matlow would join John Downs every Monday evening for the second hour of the show (8-9pm) as a political contributor and co-host. Technology Guru Carmi Levy also joined the program at 8:30pm every Friday to talk tech and take calls.

John Downs

John Downs has worked in news and talk radio in Toronto since 1999, primarily covering Toronto City Hall. His individual work has been recognized by the Radio and Television News Directors Association of Canada, including the Sam Ross Award for Best National Commentary in 2007.
