The Ecology School, formerly known as the Ferry Beach Ecology School, is a non-profit environmental education program started in 1998 in Saco, Maine.

Contents

The Ecology School offer a variety of programs for school groups of all ages. Whether students come to Ferry Beach's coastal campus for a week-long residential program, or schools host an outreach program at their own site, the Ecology Shool's ABCs of Ecology curriculum is tailored to meet each state's learning frameworks, under the auspices of the No Child Left Behind Act, in addition to each school's specific curriculum. During the summer, children and adults may enroll in day camps, learn about organic gardening or explore the ecosystems of the southern Maine coast.

Staff also travel to regional and national conferences and summits, presenting original workshops and training on everything from food systems education and sustainability to innovative teaching methodology. The Ecology School also published its own curriculum for educators and an ecosystem-based field guide in 2002.

The campus is located on Ferry Beach in Saco, Maine, near Ferry Beach State Park. The coastal campus is an outdoor classroom with eight ecosystems within walking distance including a sand beach and dunes, tide pools, salt marshes, the forested state park, river estuary, tupelo bog, fishing village and jetty.
